On March 18, 2023, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Redd Ruiz, a Senior High School student of the Ateneo de Manila University spearheaded a Children’s Seminar On Responsible Mobile and Internet Use. The activity was held in the HBI Office and had 25 participants who are kids age 7-14 years old. Snacks were provided to the children-participants to make the event more enjoyable.
During the seminar, the participants learned about the importance of responsible mobile and internet use, including the risks of excessive screen time and online behavior. The session also covered how to stay safe online, including avoiding cyberbullying and protecting personal information.
According to Redd Ruiz, the organizer of the event, “I wanted to help kids become more aware of the importance of using technology responsibly. I hope that this seminar will equip them with the knowledge and skills they need to stay safe online and make better decisions when using mobile devices.”
The participants were enthusiastic and engaged throughout the seminar, and many of them shared their thoughts and experiences. One participant named Faith Liscabo, age 9, said, “I learned that I should not share my personal information online and to be careful when talking to strangers on the internet.” Another participant named Kenneth James Deturo, age 11, said, “I will be more careful now when using my phone or the internet, and I will talk to my parents about what I learned today.”
Overall, the Children’s Seminar On Responsible Mobile and Internet Use was a success, providing valuable information to young children on how to stay safe and use technology responsibly. The event helped raise awareness about the importance of responsible mobile and internet use and provided practical tips to help kids navigate the digital world more safely.
